Protoplast was founded in Cobourg in 1981 as a precision tooling shop. It grew into something rarer: a single-source supplier that designs the mold, builds it, runs it, and finishes the part — without a second supplier in the chain.

The pitch is simple: one purchase order buys the mold, the molding, the finishing and the packaging.
Protoplast takes a customer's requirements and integrates them into one injection molding solution — from high-volume multi-cavity production molds to small runs off prototype aluminum tooling. Because the tool shop and the presses share a roof, an engineering change is a conversation across the floor, not a contract renegotiation.
Four decades of that discipline built a customer list that spans automotive, electronics, medical and industrial work, shipped worldwide.

From Cobourg, worldwide
Highway 401, then anywhere.
The plant sits on Highway 401 — ninety minutes from Toronto's international airport, an hour east of Toronto, five hours west of Montreal, and within about two hours of the U.S. border. Protoplast ships internationally, and has for decades.
The Querétaro plant adds a North American second source for automotive customers who want production closer to Mexico's assembly corridors.
